Caroline Kennedy wears unflattering floral Met Gala gown

The Met Gala is the most fashionable night of the year so it comes as no surprise to see so many trends emerge on the red carpet - and one of the sexiest silhouettes were the backless looks that dominated the style game.

Actress Dakota Johnson was just one celebrity caught on camera disregarding the Big Apple's smoking ban during a star-studded event held Monday night in New York City.

Kate was joined by her husband Michael Polish as well as designer Tory Burch and actress Zoey Deutch.

The theme for this year's gala is "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between", honoring Japanese designer Rei Kawakubo, who founded the label Comme des Garçons and is known for pushing boundaries in the fashion world.

Kate is wearing Tory Burch.

And while Rihanna's sequined thong at the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards inspired a generation of naked dresses, Jenner's black undergarments, which she similarly let show through her gown, didn't channel Rih as much as Rose McGowan's deeply unfortunate look at the 1998 VMAs.

To make her 2016 Met Gala look even more memorable, Katy Perry also had a Tamagotchi pet hanging from her dress.

The 32-year-old accented the eye-catching number with three massive diamond rings by Lorraine Schwartz and topped off the ensemble with red Tabi boots, climbing the stairs with caution as the lengthy train of her dress trailed behind her. The singer chose to wear a Maison Margiela "Artisanal" piece designed by John Galliano which was slightly altered one of his 2017 Couture runway looks. And her beauty look was just as epic as her gown, which makes flawless sense given that the singer's own Fenty Makeup line is set to launch this fall, with her hair pulled up into a topknot and a metallic pink eye that extended along her cheekbone.
