A crash on Auckland's motorway near a major junction has closed part of Spaghetti Junction and is expected to cause major traffic woes.

One person is reported to have serious injuries and a second person has moderate injuries.

Sarah Azam from NZTA said they are advising motorists to avoid the area, or else expect long delays.

One person was seriously injured in the crash on the Northern Motorway link at the Fanshaw Street exit on Monday.

It blocked two centre southbound lanes up to the Port and Cook Street exits and access to the North Western Motorway.

A Fire Service spokesman said the incident occurred in the southbound lane, near the Fanshawe St off-ramp, just after the Harbour Bridge.
