The Matrix reboot CONFIRMED - Keanu Reeves dropped for THIS star?

The three films follow Neo's journey to liberate humanity from the clutches of the machines. Warner Bros are in early developmental stages, allegedly considering a storyline centered on a Morpheus origin story, which could star Michael B. Jordan.

The Wachowski brothers, who wrote and directed the original film and its two sequels, are now not involved.

Now, it looks like a remake of the sci-fi smash hit from 1999 is in the works, but it seems unlikely that Keanu Reeves will be involved. Pictures' "The Matrix Reloaded". The directors and writers of the original trilogy, the Wachowski siblings, are said to not be involved with the project. However, the publication speculates that Warner Bros. would want for the Wachowskis to give an approval to the reboot before they can move forward with the project.

With the most recent film in the series, 2003's "The Matrix Revolutions", hitting theaters almost 15 years ago, the possible return raises the question if viewers want more of the series. As for the the other two films ... we don't really talk about those.

Between the first film being released in 1999 and the third in 2003, The Matrix franchise made a huge $1.6bn at the box-office worldwide.

A victor of four Academy Awards, The Matrix stole a place in movie history for its forward-thinking special effects. With Bladerunner getting a sequel, Beauty and the Beast being updated for live-action drama, and even more new Gilmore Girls episodes possibly on the horizon, it was a matter of time before they came for The Matrix.

The Wachowski are seen at the Chicago International Film Festival's screening of "Jupiter Ascending" at the AMC River East theater, on February 4, 2014 in Chicago.

However, Reeves spoke about the potential of doing another Matrix film to Yahoo Movies UK while promoting John Wick: Chapter 2 just this February. And given that star Keanu Reeves recently told press he'd only return if the Wachowskis did, you can probably count him out as well.
