The younger-skewing network has handed out an early season-five renewal for The 100, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. The renewal comes only a few weeks after the debut of the post-apocalyptic drama's fourth season. But they soon find out that while the atmosphere may be safe, the planet is not.

If there is one thing that we would ask of The CW looking into the future, it's that they figure out precisely what the end date for the show should be long before they get close to it.

With The 100 pickup, the CW for a third straight year has given early renewals to all returning scripted series now on its schedule, sans those whose ends have been announced (this year, that's The Vampire Diaries and Reign).

The 100 has done solid business, running on par with such other renewed CW series as Jane the Virgin and Riverdale.

The CW has just ordered a fifth season of The 100 which is to premiere sometime in the 2017-18 season. Fall shows "Frequency" and "No Tomorrow" have concluded their seasons and are now streaming on Netflix; the network hasn't made a decision on those two yet. And both Reign and the iconic Vampire Diaries are set to bow out with their final seasons this month. It airs 13-season installments in spring. Clarke may get used to this courageous new world, because it certainly isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Are you glad that The 100 will be back for Season 5?
